NFL Talk

Ok, I am appreciative of every single position that touches the field of play for football, and I understand the value of points that need to be scored if you cannot get 6 from a touch down. AND 3 points is better than nothing when you are in the heat of the battle of a game. But come on Ravens fans, voting Matt Stover as your all time franchise player is silly.

If you haven't heard that the fans voted Matt Stover (Kicker) as all time franchise player...visit

In fact, it is not even worth me going forward with this discussion. Let me know your thoughts.

Understood for the most part Eric. Lets look at it this way. If the defense never shuts down the offense of the opposing teams, those 3 points are garbage. Therefore, you must have a quarterback that can manage the game to put the kicker in a position to kick.

The Ravens had 1074 offensive plays last year which includes the field goals. There were 32 field goal attempts last season in which 27 were made. First of all, that does not even account for 3% of the plays last year. You have got to be kidding me!

Ray Lewis on the other hand had 120 tackles, putting in hard hits and knocking helmets off (even though he avoids blocks from offensive linemen... then again, most LB's do), while Matt Stover is on the side line having a Strawberry Banana Smoothie.

Bottom line, that is tough to swallow, and etc.

I'm sorry Ian, but I have to agree with the Ravens fans because I am still one of them. As a fan who lived in the Baltimore/Washington DC (Frederick, MD) area during their Superbowl Year, Matt Stover was THE MAN!! He was and STILL is the man because historically and even today, the Ravens do not score alot of points. In fact, Matt Stover is the OFFENSE for the Ravens -- not the quarterback!! His three points won COUNTLESS number of games for the Ravens and of course their steller defense lead by MR. RAY LEWIS and at the time in the secondary MR. ROD WOODSON held opposing teams under 10 points a game. Yes, don't forget that the Ravens usually have THE BEST DEFENSE IN THE AFC. They know how to bring the Pain and of course -- THE ATTITUDE!! Thus, the Ravens offense and usually their barely average quarterback (Trent Dilfer) only had to move the team into field goal range. That's how they were successful and it looks like this year, they will do the same because of their tenous quarterback situation (Boller, Smith, Flacco). Matt Stover is Mr. Consistent and a true professional ON and OFF the field. He is very generous of his time and he is so well liked by the fans, players and coaching staff. So if there is ANY WHO IS MORE DESERVING TO BE THE ALL TIME FRANCHISE PLAYER -- MATT STOVER IS THE MAN!! By the way, I'm sure all the players on the Superbowl Raven team including MR RAY LEWIS, MR. ED REED, MR. JONATHAN OGDEN, MR. TRENT DILFER, MR. ROD WOODSON AND THE GOOSE (MR. SIRAGUSA) would nominate and vote unanimously MATT STOVER AS THE FRANCHISE PLAYER OF ALL TIME!! I know it's hard to believe, but in this case -- Kickers are invaluable!!
